Mandarino Minutes for 2-25-22

 Dear Parents/Guardians,

Cloverleaf Spelling Bee Champion! -

Coach Cathy Gressley writes:

On Thursday, February 24th, 42 participants attended the Cloverleaf Spelling Bee at Lake Michigan College Mendel Center. Upton Middle School had 2 first-year 6th graders who qualified from the Upton School Bee.  Jianan Qu placed 3rd and although Suprabha Singh did not place in the top 10, but she worked exceptionally hard and grew as a speller. They were a great addition to our team. Our very own 8th grader,  Pihu Sahai won the Cloverleaf Spelling Bee meaning she placed first in the county!  She spelled the word "intrinsic" correctly after it was misspelled by another student.  She went on to spell "inquest" to win.  Pihu has competed for 3 years as an Upton Middle School student and had a work ethic that was strong and dedicated. She will compete nationally at the Scripps Spelling Bee in Washington DC in late May. Pihu is very humble, bright, and a very good mentor to the others on the Spelling Team. We wish her the best of luck!
