Mandarino Minutes for 4-24-17

Bookfair-
Please sign up to volunteer at the Upton Spring 2017 BOOK FAIR! The Scholastic Book Fair is not only fun for our students but enables our librarians to supplement our media collections throughout the year!

Book Fair Setup: April 28
Sales: May 1-5 (7:15-8:00 am, 11:30-1:00pm, 2:30-3:15pm)
Tear Down: May 8

Upton Musical (High School Musical Jr.)-
The students are so excited to present High School Musical, Jr. on May 12th and 13th.  Please see this attachment for times and more details:  Upton presents High School Musical, Jr.


8th grade Laptops-
An email will come out this week regarding 8th grade laptop purchases.  A hard copy of a note will also be sent home with your 8th grader shortly after the email to you.

M-Step Continues this week-
8th graders will have math M-Step this week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during their math classes.  We ask each student to give their best effort!  Next week Tuesday, May 2nd will be the start of 6th & 7th grade M-Step.  They will start with math next week, and the following week 7th graders will do science and ELA.  6th graders will do just ELA the week of May 8th.


Salmon in the Classroom-
This week Tuesday and Thursday our 8th graders will participate in their Salmon release and science lab science field trip.  Dr. St. Amand, her staff, and our 8th grade science teachers have planned a fun day!

Late Start this Wednesday, April 26th-
We have a district late start this Wednesday, April 26th.  We also have late starts on May 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th.


Interact Club and the Humane Society-
“A Heart For Our Humane Society” Fundraiser, Sunday, April 23-Sunday, April 30.  If you have items you would like to donate to the Humane Society we have boxes at Upton for you to do so.  Our Upton Interact Club would be very appreciative.

Mandarino Minutes for 4-17-17

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Ren Baldwin Technology Festival Deadline-

The deadline for entries is is tonight by midnight, and the festival event will be held on Friday, May 19th at St. Joseph High School. Students do not have to attend the festival to enter a project.  Please visit our FESTIVAL WEBSITE to learn more.



Girls Soccer-
We still have a few openings for Upton girls soccer for 6th, 7th, or 8th grade girls.  If you are interested, please email at: uptonmiddleschoolsoccer@gmail.com
Please consider being a part of the team. 



B.O.P. Scholarships for this summer-
Applications are now on the BOP website for summer music scholarships for band and orchestra students.  These are due May 5.

Chaperones Needed (7th grade parents) for The Field Museum-
We still need 14 chaperones for our 7th grade field trip to the Field Museum in Chicago for Friday, May 5th.  If you are interested, please email Mr. Brown at ibrown@sjschools.org.


Late-Start this Wednesday(19th) and next Wednesday (26th)-
The district will have one-hour delays this Wednesday and next Wednesday.  Breakfast will be served at 8:15 A.M.  Buses will run one hour later.


M-Step continues-
This week our 8th graders are working on their ELA M-Step state testing and next week they will continue with the Math M-Step. We appreciate you encouraging your son/daughter to do their best. Students should come each day with earbuds or headphones.  6th and 7th grade M-Step begins on Tuesday, May 2nd.

Mandarino Minutes for 4-11-17

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Great break-
We hope your family had a nice and relaxing Spring break!  These next 9 weeks are the busiest of the school year. We will have M-Step testing, NWEA testing, Tech Fest, Salmon release for 8th graders, 7th grade field trip, 6th graders hosting 5th graders, etc. 

 

No delay tomorrow (4-12-17)-
We do not have a late start tomorrow.  (Wednesday, 4-12-17)



1/2 day this Friday, April 14th-
This Friday, April 14th we have a 1/2 day of school with dismissal at 11:04 A.M.



Ren Baldwin Technology Festival-
Just a reminder that the entries are due by next Monday, April 17th for the 6th annual Ren Baldwin Technology Festival.  Here is a link for more information:  Ren Baldwin Tech Fest Info.




M-Step Testing-
Just another reminder that M-Step testing begins tomorrow, Wednesday, April 12th four our 8th graders (See my email blast I sent yesterday to 8th grade parents only).  6th and 7th grade M-Step will begin on Tuesday, May 2nd.  More details to follow for 6th & 7th grade parents.
